Busy weeks ahead as we launched Our Land, Our Stories for AIATSIS and Nelson Cengage, kicking off Tuesday the 28th May, 2019 at the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence in Redfern.  I was honoured to join Mr. Craig Ritchie the CEO of AIATSIS and Ella Havelka, the first Aboriginal Ballerina for the Australian Ballet to launch this series during 2019 Reconciliation Week.

Over the past 18 months, I have been writing for this series along with connecting Nelson Cengage with our First Nations’s storytellers, communities and culture.

I’m extremely proud to have written all 3 of the Teacher’s Resource Books (TRB) which are an essential element of this P-6 series.  The TRB’s have been designed to support every teacher to build their confidence to engage with embedding this Cross Curriculum Priority – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.  These books flag cultural protocols you should be aware of, provides discussion points and learning activities to enhance the stories told by our 40 + First Nations Writers.

Additional to this, I have authored 2 of the Learning Cards – Koiki Mabo and My Bunya Gathering (co-written with Ellsy Mae Rudd).  Looking forward to the launches and sharing this stunning series with you all.

Breaking down barriers to Build Cultural Capability

NEW WORKSHOPS 2019

Does your Education workplace need to engage with a holistic process to break down barriers so that you can build on and enhance the Cultural Capability of Educators and their Professional Practice to better include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their families and communities?

This can be achieved over a series of 5 interactions by providing specialised advice and explicit support to assist Educators to feel more confident, capable and culturally aware to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Sessions can occur regularly every fortnight/month and Educators will maintain a learning journal throughout this journey.  The program can be adapted to include different content, depending on client needs i.e. Uncle Ernie’s Framework, Walk on Country.

Check out the program below and contact Sally Lawrence to express your interest.  [email protected]
